GridFTP is a high performance data transfer protocol designed for wide area networks such as Grids. The GridFTP protocol enables secure authentication and communication. The protocol is based on the FTP protocol with added features such as [1]:

GSI security on control and data channels

Multiple data channels for parallel transfers

Partial file transfers

Third-party (direct server-to-server) transfers

Authenticated data channels

Reusable data channels

Command pipelining

I have prepared an installation guide for installing GridFTP 2.4.0 which includes information about dealing with user and host certificates, uninstallation information, and tips on handling a few specific error messages.
