Title: Experiences Building and Utilizing High Performance Network Infrastructure

Abstract:

Building network infrastructure, whether production or experimental, demands weighing the limitations of hardware architectures and considering the needs of advanced applications to push the state-of-the-art in Grid technologies. The challenges in building high-speed (10Gbit/s and beyond) infrastructure include overcoming performance realities, meeting low loss rates required to fill high-speed WAN links and preparing for lambda switching. Issues to be considered will include: physical layer realities, hardware architecture limitations, protocol issues, large MTU support and end-to-end system tuning.
